Siemens Healthineers delivers increased lab testing capacity, providing better management of rising patient testing demands

Laboratory testing volumes have increased exponentially, putting increased demand on improved turn-around times. In this context, reducing the downtime associated with maintenance and upkeep of equipment is crucial to laboratories. This is true both in the community and in hospitals.

The Siemens Healthineers Atellica Solution provides labs with better utilization of resources, increased efficiency, and consistent turn-around-times. This new technology provides unprecedented flexibility to grow patient testing capacity and to increase test speed, helping to manage rising patient testing demands and future-proofing laboratory testing capabilities.

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) in Barrie, Ontario serves a community experiencing explosive population growth, with significant demands placed on its laboratory. To better manage rising patient testing needs, RVH has recently unveiled its new automated Siemens Healthineers laboratory facility to provide increased testing capacity. This is the first in Canada to have this technology connected to Aptio Automation. The technology includes hematology and coagulation testing, creating a total lab automation solution.

Over 70 percent of patients will require the laboratory for diagnosis or treatment—RVH’s Department of Laboratory Medicine performs over 2.2 million tests annually. And in recent months, facilities outside the health centre’s catchment area have requested support due to pandemic and staffing pressures. The new Atellica Solution will help standardize and optimize clinical operations, increase workflow productivity, and deliver predictable turnaround times, addressing rapidly increasing demands.
